How to Level a Sloping Warehouse Floor

,

North America’s No. 1 manufacturer of corrugated and consumer packaging, Rock Tenn, was having a foundation problem at their Southeast Houston manufacturing warehouse. The floor had subsided in the warehouse and at a loading dock. The severity of sloping warehouse floor was exemplified by the unlevel five inch gap between the floor and a couple of non-loadbearing columns. A URETEK ICR Gulf Coast representative viewed and confirmed that the warehouse floor was sinking due to weak soil strata and proposed URETEK’s convenient method of foundation repair. Being the top manufacturer of corrugated and consumer packaging in North America, Rock Tenn can’t halt or slow down business for traditional foundation repair methods like piers. They need a fast, zero-excavation repair—like The URETEK Method®.

URETEK ICR Gulf Coast technicians begin repairs by taking elevation, then drilling penny-sized holes at various locations in affected warehouse floor areas. Next, technicians begin injecting URETEK’s patented, structural-grade polyurethane. URETEK uses a two-part polyurethane, and once the two parts mix, they create a chemical reaction which causes the polyurethane to foam and expand. The expanding foam will compress and stabilize the soil as it pushes against the warehouse floor. After the soil reaches its point of refusal, it will begin to lift the floor back up to its original location. Within 30 minutes the expanded polyurethane will be at 90 percent strength and once it has completely cured, it will have increased the foundation’s load bearing capacity up to 500 percent. URETEK technicians were able to close a large five inch gap between the floor and column by lifting the foundation up, but the most amazing thing is that it was done with zero-excavation and it only took one work day. In addition to lifting the warehouse floor, technicians were able to lift the loading dock floor as well.

URETEK ICR Gulf Coast’s zero-excavation repair method minimizes downtime and creates nearly no mess. By utilizing their innovative polyurethane technology, URETEK provides clean, long-lasting results with a speed that is unmatched by traditional foundation repair methods.
